Whether you're looking for laughs, a feel-good message, or some comforting nostalgia, this selection of movies is great for when you need a little mood brightening.



After quitting his job at a successful restaurant, Chef Carl Casper opens a food truck with his son, friend, and ex-wife, rediscovering his passion.



This charming story features the orphan bear Paddington, who is taken in by the Brown family in this movie which is sure to bring up feelings of nostalgia.


Pursuit of Happyness

Based on a true story, Pursuit of Happyness tells the story of Chris Gardner, a salesman who is trying to improve his life for himself and his 5-year old son. While homeless, Chris goes through an unpaid stock broker internship in this inspiring story about overcoming the odds.


Fantastic Mr. Fox

Based on the children's book by Roald Dahl, Fantastic Mr. Fox has the animals working together against the farmers who are determined to catch Mr. Fox.  Along with a great message, this film is wonderfully witty.


Groundhog Day

Played by Bill Murray, Phil is a weatherman who is suddenly stuck in the trap of living the same day over and over again in this sentimental comedy.


Singin' in the Rain

When you're looking for a good musical to brighten your mood, Singin' in the Rain is an essential.  With Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor, there's plenty of uplifting song and dance routines.


Little Miss Sunshine

Though this dysfunctional family might not be the first thing you think of when you're looking for a feel-good movie, there's something special about the message that there's comedy in everything and that, by being yourself, everything will work out just fine.


Begin Again

This charming movie has a struggling singer and a failing executive forming an unlikely relationship and a collaboration that celebrates being authentic.


Legally Blonde

This light, silly comedy features the bubbly Elle Woods and is really uplifting and bright.


About Time

This romantic comedy follows the story of Tim Lake, who discovers that he has the unusual gift of being able to travel through time.  He tries to get a girlfriend use his power to change his life, but ultimately discovers that time travel doesn't change what really matters.


La La Land

Drawn together by similar ambitions, La La Land brings together Emma Stone and Ryan Gostling in this uplifting musical.


Pitch Perfect

With Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, and Rebel Wilson, Pitch Perfect has the all- girls'  a cappella singing group competing to regain their position in this fun movie filled with plenty of pop tunes.


School of Rock

Dewey Finn, played by Jack Black, becomes an substitute teacher at a strict school after being kicked out of a rock band, only to start his own with the students. 


Love Actually

Though it's a Christmas movie, Love Actually is wonderfully uplifting anytime of year.  With an ensemble cast, it tells ten different stories of love, finally linking everything all together at the end.


Ferris Bueller's Day Off

This lighthearted film is all about a teenager determined to have an amazing day off from school, but they find what really matters in the end: enjoying life as it is.



Filled with optimism and lighthearted humour, Clueless is sure to bring a smile to your face - if even for the '90s nostalgia alone.


Harry Potter

It's easy to get swept up into the magic of Harry Potter, but it's also filled with lovable characters, different displays of bravery, and the message of true friendship being able to carry you through anything.


Mrs. Doubtfire

Robin Williams is excellent in this role of dressing up as a nanny to see his children, whom he lost custody of in a divorce.  Though there's a few sentimental moments, this movie is filled with plenty of laughs.


Pride and Prejudice

While this story is likely familiar, its the cast of Kiera Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen that really make this movie something special, and inspire a message of love and acceptance.
