While self-care is important all-year round, we love switching things up with some new seasonal ideas to add to your self-care routine.  With longer days, summer is a great time to re-prioritize your self-care.

Visit the Water

Water is inherently soothing.  Whether it's a trip to the beach, visiting a local lake or river, or just spending some time in your bathtub, water is pretty much an essential for a summer of self-care.

Use Refreshing Essential Oils

There are a number of essential oils that can be wonderfully cooling and soothing to hot skin.  Peppermint, cypress, sweet marjoran, lemon, and grapefruit are all great choices, and can be diffused or added to bath and body products.  Bonus: they're all naturally uplifting, which is great for the summer.

Play Outside

Summer is the perfect time to try new outdoor activities - or take advantage of the nice weather for ones you already love! Try kayaking, tennis, or bocce ball.

Nourish Your Body with Cooling Foods

Embracing seasonal foods is something we love!  In summer, it just so happens that many of these foods are naturally cooling and hydrating.  Enjoy watermelon, cucumber, tomato, and pineapple.

Practice Yoga

When it's warm outside, stretching and practicing yoga can be even easier, because your muscles are already warmed up.  Plus, it's a great way to practice mindful movement.  Beach yoga, anyone?

Go Stargazing

With warmer nights and often many opportunities to see shooting stars, stargazing a great way to spend a summer evening.  Bonus points if its a location away from any city lights.

Make a Summer Playlist

No matter what your energy levels, a playlist is a great way to set the mood.  Opt for something beachy, your favourite songs of the summer, or relax with our Summer Chill Playlist.

Hydrate Your Body

Though its a less glamorous part of self-care, staying hydrated is still important!  Make it more fun by infusing your water with fruit and herbs, or opt for unsweetened herbal iced tea.  Noshing on water-rich fruits and veggies like berries, cucumber, watermelon, and cantaloupe is great, too.

Protect Your Skin

Though protecting your skin is important all year round, it's especially important during the summer.  Be sure to use an SPF sunscreen and don't forget a lip balm, too!  Refreshing your skin with antioxidant-rich products and cooling mists are great to help ensure your skin stays hydrated, too.

Wear Clothes That Make Your Feel Comfortable and Confident

With summer, comes less and less clothing as well as swimsuits.  Make sure that you're wearing the clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident, and get rid of the ones that don't!

Choose Guilty Pleasure Beach Reads

Light, easy reads are perfect for summer days!  Whether it's chick lit, YA, humour, or a magazine, make sure to get in a good read this season.

Celebrate What Your Body Can Do

If you're dealing with chronic illness or mental health issues, it can be really easy to compare what you'd like to do versus what you can do.  Make sure to enjoy the things that you can, even if they might look a little different.

Enjoy Your Local Library

With free air conditioning, comfy seating, and wi-fi, your local library can be a great hangout spot for summer.  There are often special events during the summer, like summer reading clubs, to take advantage of, too.

Embrace Your Inner Child

There's something inherently playful about summer, so why not do what you used to love as a kid?  Whether it's running in the sprinkler, enjoying ice cream, or blowing bubbles, make time to have a little fun.

Do Nothing

Just because it's summer doesn't mean that you have to be on-the-go or outdoors all the time.  Making time to do absolutely nothing can be a wonderful act of self-care.
